Welcome to the Maja Lampa Weaving newsletter.
Monthly musings on traditional craft, natural fibres, and living locally from my weaving studio in Vancouver, BC.
If you like artisanal crafts, fibre arts, and tapping into the community of makers in your area, then this newsletter is for you.
Hi, I’m Maja.

I am a Vancouver-based artisan specializing in woven works.
Traditional craeft is integral to my work. Many of my projects explore weaving methods from the 18th and 19th centuries, while others explore ancient fibrecraft techniques, allowing me to reach further into history. Most recently, I have been learning how to spin from a distaff.
Craeft: "An indefinable sense of knowledge, wisdom, and resourcefulness." (Langlands, 2018)
Sustainability is at the core of my practice; I prioritize sourcing materials from domestic distributors and local producers. My most cherished projects are those where I have intimate knowledge of the fibre's origins—such as the name of the sheep who grew the wool or the farmer who tilled the soil.
Willow is a Wensleydale sheep from Lyndhaven Farms, less than 100km from my home. I am grateful to be spinning Willow’s 2014 championship-winning fleece.
What you can expect.
One to two newsletters per month about my latest projects, techniques, and reflections on the value of traditional craft and local systems.
The end of each newsletter will include links to some of the people that have been inspiring me lately.
Occasionally, I will deep-dive into a topic that has caught my interest—such as breeding organic colored cotton or profiling a local farm.
Maybe this sounds like the kind of thing you would like to receive in your inbox. If so, I hope to see you in a couple of weeks with my first full newsletter.
Until next time,
